GIVING TUESDAY

in collaboration with

GIFT

Help us to secure a sustainable future at Maison L'Arc-en-Ciel through solar energy and create economic opportunity in rural Haiti with Sweet Potato Smart Farming

 A Little Bit of Context...

The humanitarian crisis unraveling in Haiti has exacerbated food insecurity and caused financial distress to many families, communities, and organizations in the country. The Global Institute For Transformation (GIFT) is launching two desperately needed projects in Haiti to support those impacted by this crisis and are lacking access to economic opportunity. The purpose of these initiatives is to enable self-sustaining programs and help reduce the dependence on charity.

An Exciting Opportunity...

GIFT, through our Honey for Haiti program, will be bringing an innovative solar energy system to Maison L'Arc-en-Ciel Orphanage to help increase the capacity of income-generating agriculture projects and reduce costs. Given Haiti's poor infrastructure, the solar will help maintain basic living conditions that most of us take for granted, plus support income generation for decades to come, securing a sustainable future for children impacted by HIV/AIDS. At L'Arc-en-Ciel, Honey for Haiti has established multiple income generating programs that support self-sufficiency which will serve as models for other deployments as GIFT seeks to deploy proven strategies for poverty reduction, hunger relief, wellbeing and innovation globally.

GIFT will also help address the severe hunger now gripping Haiti by helping farmers grow sweet potatoes, advancing proven best practices to optimize farm yields. Not only is the sweet potato top-ranked for nutrition, it's a crop that yields the most calories per acre farmed, and the plant propagates tremendously (120 potatoes planted in the ground can yield 15 million potatoes and edible leaves).  GIFT has formed partnerships with the University of Fondwa, the Association of Peasants of Fondwa and its national network of Local Development Committees and Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve to execute this critical starvation relief program.  GIFT's goal is to develop a national seed bed and resources for crop propagation to address the food insecurity in Haiti. This, too, is part of a model program, as GIFT is currently deploying similar solutions in Malawi and Philippines with EcoGenesis.

Help Us Transform Lives!

We need your help to fundraise at least $50,000 for the solar array at Maison L'Arc-en-Ciel and the sweet potato project. Your donation will help to create new, life changing opportunities for hundreds of families, farmers and children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
